A company sells the FS-2500 bypass oil filter. They claim 1 micron and even sub micron filtration. My concern is that their filter is so efficient that it is removing the molybdenum anti-wear additive. I think that the moly is very important, and I read a study somewhere that showed a significant reduction in wear on camshafts and lobes measured from an optimal amount of moly in the oil versus a newer formulation of emission protection oil that had a significantly reduced amount of moly.
I believe MoS2 is the compound that is used as a motor oil additive. Its density of 5.06 g/cm3 would also mean that a centrifugal filter would probably also filter it out because I believe that would make it about 600% heavier than the motor oil. ____________________________________ mercedes sprinter engines |
