I've been noticed increasingly on vintage Mercedes that the sun roof leak is a common problem. Is there a universal fix to this or by nature is it a perpetual issue even with replacement of the seals?

I don't know about Mercedes, but I know the seal can wear out on newer ones pretty quickly, especially in the heat.

Everyhting leeks in the older ones I have seen. I think I have yet to see one that doesn't have a moderate amount of rust in it.

Same here. I'm looking for that great deal, that was kept in a garage by a little old lady, who started it every day and just wants it to go to a good home, for cheap. I haven't found it yet.

I had a '74 450sel that had that problem. I noticed there was a drain under the sun roof that ran from the front corners down the A pillers and out. I ran a straightened clothes hanger down the little drain and cleared out a bit of mess. That deffinitely helped with the leak. From then on, it still leaked, but only when it was raining very hard and I would brake abruptly and flood the drains.

Water leaks are not unusual when a car gets up in years.
The most common problem on Mercedes other then the drain channels not being cleaned out are the felts! These felts are left behind or completely forgotten. Have a look.....benzguy Cheers Big Dan
